Context Capture Workflow - WGS 84 ellipsoid - Update 11

I am trying to figure out if there is an error in my workflow or if there is a step I am missing in the software.  The error that I am seeing is the final elevation about 200' off.

Workflow

Load photos from test capture area (central Indiana) into ContextCapture Update 11 - 4.4.11.60

Change GPS altitude to WGS 84 ellipsoid because Sea level is not what I want to use as a reference.  Now the pose metadata is closer to the elevation of the test area.  As you can see in the screen shots below the photogroup pose metadata has adjusted to WGS 84, orthometric height (MSL), geoid EGM96 and the 3D view shows the same.  All good.

Screenshots of the initial loading of images

I do not have an GCPs at this location because it is just a test.  I set the Block type to Vertical under Additional data because the capture was done all top down.  I then move on to aerotriangulation.

The Positioning\georeferencing setting I leave at Use photo positioning metadata for rigid registration because I want to use the pose metadata I just adjusted or advised with inaccurate metadata (I could be wrong here).  I also change the Preset under Settings to Keep camera calibration because I have calibrated the camera of my DJI M210 using CC.

Screeshots of the aerotriangulation settings

I let the aerotriangulation complete but do not get the results I expected.  The processed images look great in 3D view but the pose metadata is not what I set in the beginning.  It keeps changing to WGS 84 (EPSG:4326).

Screenshots of the pose metadata after aerotriangulation

Sure I can change the pose metadata after aerotriangulation but that does not pass thru to the 3MX which results in being 200' off.  I realize it is not exact without GCPs but just trying to make sense of why the GPS altitude setting I set did not apply.

Thanks

hi everyone

ı do it mesh model from stereo photos. but ı have one problem.

my coordinate system is ıtrf96.

if I using photo position in ITRF format  I don't have problems with modelling.

but if I use photo positions in wgs84 format, mesh model does not occur.

couldn't find out where I made a mistake

I would be very glad if you help me?

Thank you from now.

Control Points

When running AT using control points there are 2 options. The manual says:

  • Use control points for adjustment (need a valid control point set): The block is accurately adjusted to control points (advised when control points accuracy is consistent with the resolution of input photos).
  • Use control points for rigid registration (need a valid control point set): The block is rigidly registered to control points without handling long range geometric distortion (advised for inaccurate control points).

What is the difference between accurately adjusted and  rigidly registered and when would you use one or the other?

Dears, Appreciate your usual support in the below matter: I have bentely MicroStation CONNECT Edition which stopped working (pic attached). It was working fine before with no issues now it refuses to opening up and gives the attached error. Your prompt response is highly appreciated.

Replacing the "cover images" after 3D model has been constructed?

$

Hi all,

Is there a way to replace the cover images after 3D model has been generated? The reason I ask this question is I would like to replace the cover image with masking image. For example, I would like to highlight the crack in this model

by replacing the images with masking images (black and white) and and finally update and attaching new images on the following model.

Thank you for the help.

Photo acquisition and subsequent 3d model creation

Hi there,

I'm attempting to create ortho images of a wall surrounding a site, using Context Capture.

I've taken some sample photos using a Huawei P20 Pro (HUAWEI CLT-L09).

When it comes to both the aerotriangulation and 3MX production, what gets created is not flat like the wall is, but curved.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

ContextCapture Services in London?

Anyone know of a service provider that can scan and generate reality models in London?

Apparently these guys are giving away partial models of London. It would be great if reality models were readily available so that you never have to start with a 'blank canvas'.

DJI Phantom 4 RTK Ntrip Processing

Hi,

I am processing the DJI Phantom 4 RTK data, which are corrected through Ntrip. Without putting any GCP into model construction, the horizontal accuracy is doing well like 5cm. However, the vertical accuracy is terribly wrong as 2m. It seems there is a problem of wrong vertical coordinate system. The vertical values of the model were imported as orthometric height with reference to Hong Kong Principal Datum. Is there any method like Pix4D that I could change the vertical coordinate setting as arbitrary but not egm96?

Thanks!

Photo acqusition

I create models from aerial photos taken from a fixed wing or helicopter.  Most of my projects are buildings or small rectangular areas and I normally fly in a circle and shoot overlapping oblique images focusing on a point in the centre of the area.  I have some projects along roads (see image) that are long and narrow and wanted to get a better idea of the optimal route to fly and collect the images.  I am also looking at the best way (flight diagram) to collect images to cover a large area, 15-20 city blocks.  I use a hand held camera and can’t take nadir images only oblique Any suggestions appreciated

Error opening context capture

Hi,

I have recently installed ContextCapture and I am faced with the above error message upon opening the software. When I go to open the ContextCapture Settings as recommended in the error message, the window pops up for a very short amount of time and then disappears. Any advice on fixing this error would be great.

Many thanks,

Jayme
